Herøya Industripark AS, in collaboration with Yara Porsgrunn, is carrying out a major expansion and upgrade of Quay 1. This is part of an effort to increase capacity for the import of ammonia. The project forms part of Yara Porsgrunn’s broader initiative to improve capacity and modernise its facilities.

Extensive preparation

The industrial park company is the developer of the project, while Yara Porsgrunn will be the end-user of the upgraded quay. At the same time, Yara Porsgrunn is also running a separate project to upgrade its processing equipment.

“This is a project we’ve been working on for a long time, so it’s great to finally get started,” says Skjalg Aasland, Herøya Industripark AS.

Quay 1 is located in the southeast of Herøya Industrial Park, and completion is scheduled for November this year. During the construction period, shipping traffic to and from the quay for loading and unloading will continue as normal.

Focus on safety and the environment

The project will prioritise health, safety, and working environment (SHA), as well as external environmental concerns, throughout the construction period. All parties involved are committed to ensuring a safe execution of the project and minimising the impact on the surrounding area. Project management is being carried out by Sweco, and the contractor is Vest Betong AS.

Information on noisy work

The project management wishes to inform neighbours and other affected parties that pile driving will take place at Quay 1 this summer.

“During weeks 23 to 28, with possible additional work in week 32, pile driving will be carried out at the quay. Work will take place Monday to Saturday from 07:00 to 19:00. The project will take a break during weeks 29, 30 and 31. Pile driving involves the use of machinery which may generate banging noises and other types of sound,” says Stig Ove Hol at Sweco.

“We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.”
